Allan Odell Smith

April 4, 1939 – January 14, 2026

Allan was born on the home farm outside of East Meredith, NY on April 4, 1939. He graduated from Charlotte Valley Central School in 1956 then attended Cornell University where he graduated in 1960. Soon after graduation, he married the love of his life, Joan Marie Bates. Allan lived most of his days on a three-mile stretch along County Highway 12 in East Meredith.

Allan was predeceased by his parents, Edward Devolsen Smith and Alyce (Odell) Smith as well as his older siblings, Milton Smith, Georgia (Betty) Utter, June Wood, and Roy Smith. He is survived by his children Terry Smith (Jim Dwinell), Brian Smith (Tammy Barry), Edward Smith (Bernadette Evans) and Stephen Smith (Ann Hossbach Smith) along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and scores of cousins, nieces and nephews.

If you knew Allan, you already knew that he was not one for fanfare. There will be no calling hours, and the family will hold a private service at a later date.
