Ana L. Marasa passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
She was born Ana Loder Mercado in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico on February 11, 1940, the daughter of the late Ricardo Mercado and Clara Serrano.
Ana came to the States when she was 7 years old. She grew up in New York city and earned her cosmetology license at a young age. She married and moved to Brentwood, Long Island where she raised her three children. Returning to cosmetology, she worked very hard and eventually opened her own salon in a very prominent area of Nassau County, Long Island. She had a huge following which included many celebrities.
Ana was an avid gardener, creating the most beautiful spaces around her home, strangers would stop and take photos in front of her home. Ana’s creativity did not stop there, she was an extremely resourceful person, if she could imagine it, she could create it. Ana loved music, writing, painting and sewing. She was also an excellent cook.
She eventually moved to Andes, NY to be near her daughter and grandchildren. She said the mountains reminded her of Puerto Rico. In Andes she would re-create her gardens and work hard inside and outside her home, creating a place of beauty and peace.
Ana is survived by her partner in life and best friend for more than 45 years: Robert J. Christ; her 3 children: Anthony Marasa (Grace), Michael Marasa (Julia), and Lisa Marasa (Jeff Tubbs); her grandchildren: Philip Rezac, Jr. (Rebecca Miller), Alexandria McGowan(Donald), Ana Marasa, Andrew Marasa, Joel Marasa, Laura Marasa, and Hannah Marasa; and her great-grandchildren: Emily McGowan and Giovani Rezac.
Calling hours will be held from 2PM until 5PM on Friday, March 20, 2026, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Delhi, where a prayer service and time of sharing will follow at 5PM at the funeral home.
