Barbara “Aunt Barb” Stalter Smith, born June 20, 1933, passed away on September 29, 2025, at the age of 92, in Delhi, New York. She was born in Suffern, New York to Kenneth and Edith (McNair) Stalter and grew up in Sloatsburg, NY.
Barbara was an avid sewist, hemming clothing for her extended family and making pocketbooks out of patches of cloth. She also loved gardening and loved painting EVERYTHING whether it needed painting or not. Barbara took care of Patty and Scott Krupo’s triplets Olivia, Noha, and Evan from when they were born until they were about 5 years old. She loved them dearly. She was a registered nurse and worked for many years as a nurse supervisor at what is now known as Valley View Center for Nursing Care and Rehabilitation in Goshen, NY. She went back to working as a teacher of Certified Nursing Assistants at the Delhi Nursing Home when she was well into her seventies. She raised and loved all her dogs; Jack Russell Terriers, Springer Spaniels, and Labrador Retrievers, including her Labs Willow and Duncan who currently miss their mom. Her first dog when she was a kid was a Springer Spaniel named Suky. Barbara’s favorite color was green, and she would never turn down a good chunk of chocolate!
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and their wives, Kenneth and Lois Stalter, William and Lorraine Stalter and brother James Stalter, nephew Kenneth Stalter and his daughter Leah, Wayne Stalter, and her beloved husband Dave Smith.
Barbara is survived by her children: Barbara (Pete) Oprandy of Charlottsville, VA, Scott Moran of Delhi, NY, Edith Knoblick of Saint Michaels, MD, Karen Hooper of Walden, NY, and David (Yong Cha) Moran of Lakewood, WA. Barbara’s extra-special niece Susan and her husband Jeff Ackerly who Barbara thought of as her third son; grandchildren: Melissa (Porter) Fogleman, Ann (Lee) James, Billy (Ruth) Moran of Washington State, Larry, Bailey, Abbey and Jacob Hooper; great-grandchildren, Jackson Fogleman, William, Jacob, Harrison, and Jonathan Moran, and nieces Mikella (Paul) Rubeo and son Vincent, Lori (Scott) White and their children, nephews Tom Stalter and his children, Michael (Megan) Stalter and their children, Shane (Heather) Stalter and daughters.
Aunt Barbara is survived by her Delhi nieces and nephews: Shawn (Fran) Ackerly and their children Kendra, Sarah, and Lane, Crystal (Daniel) Kennedy and their children, Ethan (Adia) Kennedy and their children Grayson, Tyler, Abigail (Darick) Thurman and their daughters Mackenzie, Lahlani, and Lilianna.
Barbara cherished her Christian faith and read her bible frequently and taught Sunday school for adults. She loved her wonderful Church friends.
There will be no calling hours. Barbara’s funeral service will be announced at a later date.
