Basil Sroke Jr., 94, of Delhi, NY, passed away peacefully at home on July 15, 2026, with his family by his side. He was a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and recently, a great-great-grandfather.
Born on June 26, 1932, to Basil Sroke Sr. and Julia Markowitz in Hackensack, NJ, Basil grew up and lived in Elmwood Park. In 1951, he married the love of his life, Patricia C. Geithner, at Our Lady of Sorrows in Garfield. A carpenter by trade and the proprietor of Renpat Construction, Basil built his first home for his parents in East Paterson (now Elmwood Park). He went on to build a home for his own family, later constructing a larger one in 1958 as his family expanded to include four daughters. Dedicated to his community, Basil served as a volunteer fireman with Company #3 in Elmwood Park for 25 years. In 1966, he also purchased the Anchor Inn Tavern in Elmwood Park.
In 1973, Basil and Patricia decided to move to the country to live off the land, falling in love with Hollister Hill in Delhi. There, Basil built a home and a barn where they raised beef cattle, pigs, chickens, and ducks, maintained a large vegetable garden, and tended to apple and plum trees alongside 17 blueberry bushes. He took great joy in caring for the animals, gardening, splitting firewood, plowing snow, and visiting with his neighbors on the hill. His life was filled with love from his family, and he will be dearly missed.
Basil was predeceased by his beloved wife, Patricia, in 2022 after 71 years of marriage. He is survived by his four daughters and their spouses: Marilyn and Donald Sciorra of Westtown, NY; Evelyn and Bruce Gaffney of Phoenix, AZ; Patricia and Robert Doak of New Port Richey, FL; and Laura and Art Wayman of Delhi. He is also survived by his eight loving grandchildren: Julie (Al) Ferrara, Kelly (Chris) Perry, Brian Gaffney, Nicholas (Jenn) Pagerie, Alexander (Danielle Tucker) Pagerie, Lindsey (Chris) Reynolds, Amy Snider, and JennyRose (Mark) Erickson; 12 dearly loved great-grandchildren: Kayla (Connor) Hill, Collin, Tegan, Ryan, Allie, Audrey, Aria, Charlie, Sylvia, Aiden, Olivia, and Henry; and one special great-great-granddaughter, Lorelei Jean Hill.
In accordance with Basil's wishes, there will be no public services. His and Patricia's ashes will be scattered together on the farm, the place they loved so much.
