Benny Mattice

Benny H. Mattice, 86, of Hobart, passed away at home on Saturday, April 27, 2019 surrounded by his family. Born on October 29, 1932 in Gilboa, Benny was the son of the late Claude and Alice (Stevens) Mattice. He was married to Barbara J. Loucks on January 2, 1955 in Grand Gorge, she passed away on Oct. 9, 2005. Benny worked as a farmer most of his life, but retired from the Town of Stamford Highway Dept. He loved his family and enjoyed family gatherings, often he could be found playing a good game of horseshoes, one of the highlights was listening to his nephews play and sing country music. Benny was a tinker, he enjoyed spending time in his shed workshop, creating masterpieces, most of which only he could understand. Over the last few years, Benny enjoyed daily Domino games, most of which he won. Besides his parents and wife, Benny was predeceased by his siblings: Evelyn McStay, Virginia Zimmerman, Hilda Ferguson, Bertie Rockwell, Marie Tompkins, Orson Mattice, Millie Holland, Floyd Mattice, Richard Mattice, Ellry Mattice and Claude Mattice. He is survived by his daughters: Sharon J. Jakus and Janet M. Toth; grandchildren: Jennifer M. (Patrick Kelly) Briggs and Joseph (Sabrina) Toth; great-grandchildren: Joseph and Theresa Toth; a sister: Patty Mattice; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of Benny's life will be held at 12noon on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Hobart Community Center (Fire Dept.) Cornell Ave., Hobart.
