Betty Schmitt

Betty Schmitt, 91, of Jefferson passed away on Wednesday morning, December 1, 2021, at Chestnut Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Oneonta. Born on July 9, 1930, in North Harpersfield, Betty was the daughter of the late W. Lloyd and Laura A. (Ballagh) Hillis. Betty was married to Donald Gordon Schmitt on November 23, 1952, in the North Harpersfield Methodist Church, a union that lasted 26 years until his passing on February 16, 1979. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, baking. cooking, crocheting, quilting, watching Jeopardy on TV and crossword puzzles, but her greatest joy was her family, Betty would light up whenever her grandchildren were around. Betty is survived by her children: Gary (Lisa) Schmitt of Worchester, Roxanne (Charles) Jochem of Jefferson, Larry Schmitt of Jefferson and Stephen (Carol) Schmitt of Jefferson; grandchildren: Jason (Jessica) Jochem, Jodie (Jeremy) Hamm, Bobbi Lynn (Rich) Schmitt, Donald Gordon (Lori) Schmitt, Cody (Sarah) Schmitt and Stephen Schmitt; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister: Shirley Dibble of FL; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
