Daniel Wight Jacques, 78, of Delhi, New York, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026. He was the son of the late Lynworth Jacques and Marjorie Laing Jacques.
He is survived by his daughter: Michelle and her husband Scott; his cherished grandchildren: Danny and Hannah; his partner: Janna Winters, and her daughters Dianna and Jessica and their families; his sister: Kim Brown; his nephews: Donald and Daniel McGowan; and his stepsons: Scott and Derek Smith.
He was predeceased by his sister: Janis Lynn Jacques; his brother: Lynworth “Skip” Jacques; and Kathryn “Kate” Jacques-Michelle’s mother.
Dan grew up in Andes, New York, and graduated from Andes Central School. He went on to attend SUNY Delhi, where he studied drafting. Following college, Dan proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and spent the next seven years serving in the United States Army Reserves.
Dan spent his career working in maintenance at SUNY Delhi. During that time, he also served the community as a dispatcher with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office. At the age of 50, he made the remarkable decision to pursue a lifelong dream and enrolled in the police academy, becoming one of the oldest officers to do so. After graduating, he proudly served in law enforcement with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and the Delhi, Walton, and Deposit Police Departments.
Delaware County was always home to Dan. In his younger years, he loved hunting and fishing and was a member of the Andes-Tremperskill Rod and Gun Club. He was also an avid golfer and spent many years golfing with his friend Kip at the Delhi Golf Course.
He had great compassion for animals. In his later years, he could often be found chopping wood behind his house, antiquing with his partner Janna, or spending time at home with her and their beloved Maltese dogs.
Dan was a man of few words but a steady and constant presence in the lives of those around him. He touched many lives along the way and will be remembered for his quiet strength, dedication to family, and love for the place he called home.
We take comfort in knowing that he is at peace with the family who left before him, driving his Corvette while listening to George Strait.
A private service will be held by the family in the spring.
