Donald V. Oblinski

Donald V. Oblinski, 77, of East Meredith, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Bassett Medical Center on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

Born on September 19, 1946 in Delhi, NY, Don was the son of the late Valentine and Josephine (Dorosky) Oblinski.

Don was married to Linda (Selwyn) Oblinski for 46 years before she passed away in January of 2017.

He proudly served as a Cryptologic Technician in the US Navy from 1968 until his honorable discharge in 1972. Following his abbreviated Navy career, Don worked for a short time as a bricklayer and then at the Allen Residential Center in South Kortright, NY. He was a Rural Letter carrier, serving the people of the Bloomville Post Office for over 25 years until his retirement.

Don was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and riding his UTV. He loved animals and in recent years enjoyed working on and spending time at his cabin, feeding the fish and swimming in the pond. He especially loved the views from the hill in the fall and summer - a little piece of heaven on earth. He was an automobile enthusiast who enjoyed collecting classic cars and attending car shows, car club drives and other events, including an annual fall drive for Watkins Glen Vintage weekend. He also enjoyed wintering in Naples, Florida as his second home. However, Don’s greatest passion and joy was his family and friends. He loved spending time with them, either at a special occasion, a party or simply an informal BBQ or other get togethers.

He is survived by his children: Jennifer (Scott) Seeber of New Jersey and Matthew (Amelia) Oblinski of Bloomville; grandchildren: Andrew Seeber of New Jersey and Kadence Oblinski of Bloomville; sisters: Joan (Jerry) Scharf of New Hartford and Pat Barno of Binghamton; close friend: Arlene Landzettel of East Meredith; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at the Sacred Heart Church, Stamford, followed by burial with full military honors at Sacred Heart Cemetery. A celebration of Don’s life will follow from 2-5PM at the Bloomville Fire Dept, 243 Scotch Hill Road, Bloomville, NY 13739.

In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Don can be made to the above address for Bloomville Fire Dept. and EMS.
