Donna R. Calhoun, 77, passed away Thursday October 29,2026 at Albany Medical Center. She was born on April 22, 1949, in Oneonta New York to Harry O. and Evelyn L. (Quigley) Calhoun. She grew up and lived most of her life on Shady Lawn Farm in Davenport, NY.
Donna was a graduate of Charlotte Valley Central School and SUNY Geneseo where she earned her degree in Special Education. She began her teaching career at New Berlin Central School. She spent much of her career at Charlotte Valley as a Resource Room teacher and CSE chairperson. She ended her career at Stamford Central School.
Donna is survived by her sister-in-law Deborah Calhoun, her nieces and nephew Wendy (Paul) Miller, Marcia (Jack) Collins, Taylor Calhoun, and Kathryn (Joe) Schweitzer, as well as her great nieces and nephews Roston (Abigail) Miller, Brittyn (Trenton) Newkirk, Cecilia[WM1] and McCormick Calhoun, along with their mother Jennifer Calhoun, and many cousins with whom she shares special memories.
In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by her beloved aunt Aletha “Belle” Quigley and her brothers Duane W. and Douglas F. Calhoun,
Donna spent her life giving beyond her means. She was generous with her time, talent, and treasures. She was actively involved in the lives of her nieces and nephews: providing care, teaching life skills, supporting them in their endeavors, and making endless memories.
She dedicated her life to improving the lives of her students, working beyond the classroom to lead several committees and organizations. She supported the Wildcat athletic program keeping the score book for thousands of games, organizing fund raisers and managing concessions stands. Her classroom door was always open to students who needed a kind smile, a listening ear, and a safe space.
Donna served her community through the Davenport Fire Department Auxiliary and worked alongside her brother Doug to provide summer recreation and sports opportunities for children and youth throughout the area.
Her family would like to express our deep appreciation to all who found themselves in Donna’s network of friends and family who helped her. Many people provided rides to games and appointments, ran errands, and did projects for her so that she could remain involved in life. We are forever grateful.
Donna requested that her life be remembered through acts of service. In her final wishes, she asked people to “do something to put a smile on a child’s face.” Monetary donations can also be made to the Calhoun Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Charlotte Valley Central School.
In honor of Donna’s final wishes, a private graveside service will be held at the Davenport Cemetery.
Her family would like to invite the community to share in a Celebration for Life on Saturday December 12, tentatively scheduled for the Old Gym at CVCS. More details will be announced later.
