Douglas Micha

Douglas "Doug" W. Micha, 52, passed away early Wednesday morning, February 10, 2016, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Douglas was born on March 27, 1963 in Catskill, NY. He spent his childhood in Prattsville and Stamford. Doug was a 1982 graduate of Jefferson High School and attended Herkimer Community College for one year. Doug then went to Maryland where he attended the Maryland Corrections Academy in 1984 and served with the Charles County Sheriff's office. In 1986 he returned to Stamford and was hired by the Village of Cobleskill where he received his New York certification as a Police Officer. In 1987, Doug was hired by the Schoharie County Sheriff's Office where he served as a Deputy Sheriff. During this time, like many Police Officers Doug started a small business called MAVCO Excavation. In 1997, he took a position as a Deputy Sheriff in Delaware County. He served faithfully in that position until 1999 when he decided to expand his excavation business. Doug stayed with law enforcement from 1999 until 2003 as a part-time Officer for the Village of Deposit. After an eight year respite owning and operating MAVCO Excavation, Doug returned to his original calling of Law Enforcement. He returned to the Deposit Police Department and was fully recertified by the State of New York as a Police Officer. Doug continued both his MAVCO business and his police work until October 2015 when he retired due to illness. Douglas is survived by his two sons: Mavrick Douglas (Brooke Stannard) and Torr David Micha both of Stamford; mother: Alice Tepfer Stephens of Oneonta; father: Walter Micha of Cairo; brother: David (Julie) Micha of Erial, NJ; niece: Lindsay Micha of Erial, NJ; nephew: Steven(Jill) MacKenzie of Philadelphia, PA; Step-Siblings: Peter, Robert, and Ned Stephens and Teal Batson; companion and caregiver: Ann Wieland of Stamford; the mother of his sons: Kelly Micha of Stamford; several aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. He is predeceased by his step father Peter Stephens of Stamford, maternal grandparents Dr. & Mrs. Gustave A. Tepfer of Grand Gorge, and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Micha of Prattsville. In addition to a large family, Doug had so many friends due to his vast knowledge of excavation and law enforcement and his innate ability to repair anything. He was always willing to help friends, family, and coworkers in any way possible. He will long be remembered for his good-natured attitude towards life, his passion for law enforcement and excavating, his generosity to family and friends, and above all his love for his family. Friends and relatives are invited to call from 4-8PM on Friday, February 12 at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 40 Cornell Ave., Hobart. A funeral service will be held at 1PM on Saturday, Feb 13 at the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford, 96 Main Street, Stamford.
