Douglas S. Woodin

Douglas S. Woodin passed away peacefully in his home on September 16, 2025.

He was born September 6,1947 in Margaretville, NY to Floyd and Helen Woodin.

Doug was raised on the family farm on Wolf Hollow in Andes, NY and graduated from Andes Central School in 1965. He attended the Ranger School at Wanakena, a division of Syracuse University’s College of Environmental Science and Forestry graduating in 1967. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1967-1970. Upon returning from the service, he began a career in surveying, becoming licensed in 1977.

Doug married his beloved wife Kathy (Oles) in 1970. They raised their family in Andes, always surrounded by friends and family. He is survived by his brother Mel, sons Matt (Alexis Rogers) and Jared (Brittany Bausch), his grandchildren Kiera, Skyler (Hannah Wood) and Owen and great grandchildren Jude and Ayawin.

Doug was an avid horseman specializing in carriage driving. He loved working with horses and competed for many years across the Northeast, winning numerous awards. He was also very active in his community serving as a charter member of the Andes Planning Board and Andes Historical Society, former Commander and Sergeant at Arms for the Andes American Legion, Commander of the Honor Guard Firing Squad for over 50 years of Memorial Day parades, a member of the Fire Department and the Emergency Squad, serving also on the board of the Andes Cemetery – a role in which he took great pride, honoring those that have gone before us.

There will be a graveside service with military honors in the Andes Cemetery on September 28, 2025, at 1:00p.m. with a gathering at the Andes Fire Department afterwards.
