Dr. Kenneth Edward Penny

Dr. Kenneth Edward Penny, 104, of Delhi, passed away peacefully on September 6th, 2023 at O’Connor Hospital in Delhi.

Born on October 11, 1918 in Mt. Vernon, NY, he was the son of the late Albert and Florence Penny.

He married Grace Penny (Langewisch) on December 8, 1944, in the Naval Chapel in Port Smith, VA during his service in WWII. The couple enjoyed 73 years together, raising their family in Syracuse, retiring to Florida, and returning to Delhi about 25 years ago.

Ken served in the US Navy from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946.

After completing his naval service, he went on to open a neighborhood dental practice in Syracuse, which he maintained for over 30 years. He loved his work, and he was much-beloved by his patients.

Ken enjoyed woodworking, railroad history, fishing, and traveling. He was genuinely fascinated by the world and the people around him. He was always eager to learn new things, develop new hobbies and skills, strike up engaging conversations, and listen to people’s stories. An active and devoted volunteer, he generously gave his time to his church and his community. Ken’s life was a life fully and beautifully lived. His loved ones will cherish the memories he made and the love he shared.

Ken is survived by four children: Janice (Joe) Whittaker of DeLancey, Keith Penny (Dawn Donovan) of Syracuse, Diane Fricano of Syracuse, and Mark (Wendy) Penny of Ilion; nine grandchildren: Jenna, Jennifer, Daniel, Sarah, Nicole, Monica, Brittany, Hannah and Brock; and twelve great grandchildren.

There are no funeral services planned at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society, PO Box 88, Delhi, NY, 13753.

Ken’s family is deeply grateful for the exceptional, compassionate care he received from everyone at O’Connor Hospital. They went above and beyond to create a caring, peaceful environment for him. Their kindness was truly a gift.
