EAST MEREDITH Elizabeth A. Guntert, 91, better known as "Betty," of East Meredith, died Saturday September 10, 2011. She was born April 18, 1920 at her parent's home in East Meredith, the daughter of Sebastian and Albertine (Eisele) Mathis. She married Karl F. Guntert on December 16, 1945, in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church of Delhi when Karl returned from fighting in World War II. They began farming together at the "Betborn" family farm in East Meredith. She and her family retired from farming 1980 and Betty and Karl started travelling. Their first vacation was a USA round trip to the West Coast by car. In the following years they travelled to Alaska, Europe, Hawaii, China, Italy, Scandinavia, Nova Scotia, and then took a train trip across Canada. Betty was an active member in her community, and held memberships in several groups and organizations. She was involved with the Board of Elections, Catholic Charities, Farm Bureau, the Meridale Ladies Aid, Meredith Senior Citizens, and for many years enjoyed getting together with their friends for a game of cards. Betty was a life-long member of St. Peter's Church and for many years she sang in the choir. She is survived by a son, Paul Guntert of Hyde Park; a daughter, Lucy Guntert of East Meredith; her sisters, Viola Laing of Delhi, and Sister Albertus Mathis of Albany. Betty is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Karl, and daughter Jean Marie Guntert; and her siblings John, Margaret, Rose, and Agnes. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Delhi, with Rev. Edward J. Golding, celebrant. Burial will take place following Mass in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons. In lieu of flowers make contributions to the Meridale Emergency Squad, P.O.
