Elizabeth “Liz” McPhail, 76, of Stamford, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at Heritage at the Plains in Oneonta, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on February 26, 1949, in Manhattan, NY, Liz was the daughter of the late Julius and Caroline (Oross) Yaro. Her family moved to Jefferson, NY in 1960, then to Oneonta where she was a 1967 graduate of Oneonta High School. Liz went on to graduate from SUNY Oneonta with a bachelor’s degree in 1971, she continued her education later while working and raising a family, receiving a master’s degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1989.
Liz worked for Graham Laboratories/Mallinckrodt from 1972 until 2001 and owned and operated a tax preparation service helping many people in the Stamford area with their tax returns from 1990 until her health forced retirement in 2024.
She was married to Frederick “Fred” Doyle in 2005. Fred passed away on March 28, 2025.
Liz was a devoted member of the Frist Presbyterian Church of Stamford.
Besides her parents and husband, Liz was predeceased by a brother: Julius Yaro.
She is survived by her children: Jennifer (Gino) Luchetti of Palm Coast, FL, and Ryan (Kimberly) McPhail of Canton, GA; stepchildren: Sam (Kristen) Doyle of Slingerlands, NY and Sarah Austin of Schenectady, NY; grandchildren: Alexis and Luke McPhail, Elijah Doyle and Nolan Austin; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held from 3PM-6PM on Friday, February 27, 2026, at the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford, 96 Main Street, Stamford, NY, where a funeral service will follow at 6PM with the Rev. Dawn Richards. Burial will be in the spring at Davenport Cemetery, Davenport, NY.
