Fiesa Louise Graig Hawxhurst, 94, died Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Fox Memorial Nursing Home, Oneonta, NY of natural causes. Fiesa "Bud" was born June 4, 1921 in Davenport, NY the sixth child of Lacell and Emily Foote Graig. There she grew up on the dairy farm she loved on Dona Brook. As a young woman she contracted tuberculosis and was in a sanatorium for several months. In Oneonta, she worked as the head cashier at the A & P grocery store. Fiesa went on to be the financial secretary at the Binghamton Press for over 20 years. She married Malcolm Hawxhurst in 1971 and they retired to Davenport. Fiesa was interested in politics and her community. She served as the Treasurer of the Delaware County Republican Party for several years. She read the Daily Star every day until she died. She enjoyed playing cards, writing letters and traveling. Fiesa was a member of the Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church in Davenport. She had a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. Fiesa was independent and in spite of her failing memory, she lived at home until she was 91 years old. She was grateful for her good health and her caring neighbors. Fiesa was preceded in death by her husband Mac, her parents, Lacell and Emily Graig, her siblings, Mary, Ruth, Nellie, Jimmy, Robert and Frederick. She is survived by eight nieces and two nephews who live in Oregon, Illinois, Montana and Florida. She is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews. Services will be at the Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church in Davenport on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at 11:00 am with Pastor Carol Wilson officiating. Burial will follow the service in Davenport Cemetery, Davenport, NY. There will be no calling hours. Those who wish to share condolences or a special memory may do so online at www.macarthurfh.com.
