Frances E. Stevens

Frances Elizabeth Peck Stevens, 89 of Andes, entered into God’s Kingdom Thursday, December 18, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on June 28, 1936 in Delhi, NY to Charles A. and Janet D. (Hall) Peck, her life was marked by her devotion to God. She grew up on the family dairy farm on Fall Clove Road, Andes. She and her twin brother Frank walked to the one room schoolhouse by Barnes Hill Road until fifth grade when they started attending Andes Central School. She loved school and her favorite class was Home Economics. Frances loved watching high school basketball and would have loved the opportunity to play like her daughters and granddaughters were able to. Frances graduated from ACS in 1954. In 1955, Frances married the boy next door, Robert “Bob” W. Stevens, at Cabin Hill Presbyterian Church. As a farmer’s wife and mother of four, Frances put meals on the table, kept the house clean, milked cows, drove tractors, mended clothes and was a loving mother. Frances was a faithful servant of the Lord, an elder and a lifelong member of the Cabin Hill Presbyterian Church, member of the Cabin Hill Ladies Missionary Society and later the Hamden Ladies Missionary Society, as well as a member of the Andes Senior Citizens group.

Frances will be remembered as a devoted wife and the loving matriarch of her family—a woman whose heart was as kind as they come. She was happiest when her house was full—hosting movie nights and welcoming overnight guests with open arms. An avid reader and a true animal lover, Frances was always ready to share a book with her granddaughter or a dear friend. Her favorite book was the Holy Bible and her deep faith was evident in her daily life; she found strength in prayer and Bible study. Until recent years, you could often find Frances enjoying a walk on Fall Clove, visiting with neighbors and passersby. She was an active participant in her grandchildren's lives, sending funny cards to brighten their days, frequent phone calls, cherishing trips to their colleges, cheering loudly from the sidelines of basketball games and recently celebrating her youngest grandchild’s high school graduation.

Frances is survived by her four children: William (Mary) Stevens, Donna (Barry Post) Briglia, Kristen (Skip) Baxter and Matthew (Jaimi) Stevens; ten grandchildren: Sarah (Dimitri) Dron, Adam Stevens, Daniel Stevens, Michael Briglia, Nathan Stevens, Hannah Baxter, Joshua Baxter, Alexander Stevens, Julia Baxter and Raegan Stevens; special cousins: Fay Dodge and Richie “Dickie” Sanderson, as well as many other beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. Frances was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Robert W. Stevens, her parents Charles and Janet Peck, twin brother Frank Peck and special cousin Carol Lowell.

A celebration of France’s life will be held at 10AM on Wednesday, December 24, 2025 at Cabin Hill Presbyterian Church. All are welcome to attend and join the family for a reception immediately following. Burial will be at the Andes Cemetery in the spring.

In keeping with Frances’s wishes, the family asks for donations to the Andes Emergency Squad or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, in lieu of flowers.
