Francis Fred Ballard, 84, a lifelong resident of Davenport, passed away late Thursday evening, December 1,2022 at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown.


Born on October 27, 1938, on the family farm in Davenport, he was the son of the late John Peter and Jennie (Kosier) Ballard.


Fred spent his life working on the family farm as well as working in the Construction industry. He retired from North East Riggers and Erectors out of Amsterdam, NY.


Fred was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed watching many sports and was a faithful Chicago Cubs and Buffalo Bills fan. He was a gifted cook with many family favorites like stuffed cabbage and duck soup.


Always known for a good laugh, smart comment or good story, Fred’s family and friends will cherish the good times. Family and friends were important to Fred and he would help anyone with anything they needed. In honoring Fred’s giving ways, his family has chosen to honor him by paying it forward with tissue donations that will benefit many people.


He is survived by his wife: Laura (Kalmar) Ballard of Davenport; four children: Michael (Katherine) Ballard of Bedford, VA, Melissa (William) Bevins of Middleburgh, NY, Beau Ballard of Davenport, NY and Scott Ballard of Davenport, NY; four grandchildren: Spencer, Garrett, Kaleb and Jacob; great-grandchild: Oakley; brother: Butch (Kitty) Ballard; sisters: MaryAnn Nyback, Doreen (Bill) Allegretti, Genevieve (Bob) McMullen and Linda Clark; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.


A celebration of Fred’s life will be held at the Davenport Firehouse, on Saturday January 21st from 1-4pm.
