Francis Mcmullen

Francis M. McMullen, 82, of Hobart, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Robinson Terrace in Stamford with has wife at his side. Born on July 24, 1936 in Delhi, the son of the late Frank and Merle (Sands) McMullen. He was a 1955 graduate of South Kortright Central School. He was married to Georgieanna (Preston) McMullen on July 28th, 1957 at the Hobart Methodist Church. Mr. McMullen owned and operated McMullen Garage in Hobart, a family owned service station and repair facility that he and Georgieanna purchased from Francis’s parents in 1970, the couple operated the garage until their retirement in 2005. Working on vehicles and equipment was not only his career but restoring classic vehicles became a hobby as well, Francis restored several including his 1968 Cadillac Convertible. Francis was active in the Hobart community, serving as a member and past Chief of the Hobart Fire Dept., also serving on the village board and he served as Deputy Mayor of Hobart. Besides his parents, Francis was predeceased by his uncles: Floyd and Claude Sands; aunt: Rosemary Murphy; daughter-in-law: Frances McMullen; several cousins; and a close friend: Larry Hillis. He is survived by his wife: Georgieanna McMullen of Stamford; sons: Douglas McMullen of Hobart and Terry McMullen of Kortright Center; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special friend and aide: Jerry at Robinson Terrace; and long-time friends Ernest and Hariett Hanselman. Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from 4-6PM on Friday, January 18, 2019 at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 15 Buntline Drives, Stamford. Private graveside services will take place in the spring at Locust Hill Cemetery, Hobart.
