Frank Leonardo, 84 of Harpersfield, NY, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, with his wife by his side, after saying goodbye to his loved ones.
Born on January 27, 1942, in Corona, Queens, NY, Frank was the son of the late Rocco and Mary Leonardo.
Following his graduation from Bayside Highschool, he joined the US Air Force at the age of 18, during the Vietnam War. Frank was stationed in Bar Harbor, Maine and Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. He was disabled while on duty but continued to proudly serve. Following his discharge, Frank became one of the first police officers for the United States Postal Service.
Frank met the love of his life Rosemarie Hoey in 1982 at a Catholic singles meeting, the pair quickly knew it was meant forever and were married on April 14, 1984, at the American Martyrs Catholic Church in Bayside. They lived in Bellerose Manor, Queens with Rosemarie’s two children, Christopher and Rebecca, whom Frank eagerly accepted and loved as his own.
After several years, with their shared love of the mountains, Frank and Rosemarie moved to Delaware County in 1992, where he enjoyed spending time with family. becoming an incredibly proud grandpa, often hunting, watching NASCAR, and enjoying car rides with Rosemarie and their dog, Jaxie, with whom Frank developed a strong bond with.
Besides his beloved wife: Rosemarie; Frank is survived by his children: Rebecca Hoey, Christopher (Jacqueline) Hoey, Frank Leonardo, Jr., and Karen Hansen; grandchildren: Alivia Rose, Christopher Jack, and Rebecca; cousin: Camille D’Amato; and dear family friend: John Wilsley.
Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Sacred Heart Church, Stamford, NY. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 1PM on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Calverton National Cemetery, Wading River (Long Island), NY.
An icecream social is being planned as a celebration of Frank's life and will be announced soon.
