Gary T. "Bummer" Matthews

Gary T. “Bummer” Matthews, 74, of Delhi, passed away on October 24, 2024 at the New York State Veteran’s Home in Oxford.

Born on April 24, 1950 in Margaretville, NY, Gary was the son of the late Donald C. and Marion (Haynes) Matthews.

Gary proudly served in the US Air Force for 20 years from 1970 until his honorable discharge in 1990 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his dedicated service in the Air Force, Gary moved back to Delaware County and went to work for the Delaware County Highway Department with the Bridge Crew, following his retirement he worked as a caretaker for the Gerry Estate until illness forced his retirement.

He loved the outdoors, hunting and enjoying all that nature had to offer.

Besides his parents, Gary was predeceased by his sisters: Barbara (Douglas) Condon, Doris (LeRoy) DeSilva, Lodema (Ronald) McAdams, Patricia (Julian) Sherwood and Gail (Lewis) Dibble.

Gary is survived by his children: Crystal Matthews of Delhi and Dwayne Matthews of Delhi; grandchildren: Dylan Reed, Marek Voeks and Ivy Matthews; brother: Robert (Susan) Matthews of Delhi; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at the Woodland Cemetery, Delhi, NY.
