George C. Bergleitner, Jr., 90, of Stamford, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025, at AO Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta, NY.
Born on July 16, 1935, in Brooklyn, George was the son of the late George C. and Marie (Preitz) Bergleitner, Sr.
He served in the US Army from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1955.
George graduated from St. Francis College in Brooklyn in 1959 where he also served on the board of regents for many years.
In his earlier years George was a stockbroker in New York City, later moving to Delaware County, where he first established the former Delhi Chemical Company and then founded Stamford Financial Consulting and Delaware County Real Estate in Stamford where he was a Real Estate Broker and Appraiser.
George also loved supporting his community and was an active member in the Stamford Rotary Club, was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Stamford, he was Sir Knight George Bergleitner and a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, served as Secretary of the Delaware County IDA and served as Vice President of the Delaware County Republican Committee. He was honored with the 2019 Republican of the year award. George was the founder, Chairman, and avid supporter of the Christmas Feeling Fund in Stamford.
He enjoyed playing golf when he was younger and loved watching sports, always cheering for the NY Yankees and NY Giants.
George is survived by his wife: Betty L. (VanBuren) Bergleitner of Stamford; sons: George C. “Buddy” (Marianne) Bergleitner, III of Wantagh, NY, Michael J. Bergleitner of Stamford and Stephen W. Bergleitner (Shawna Proper) of South Londonderry, VT; grandchildren: Ryan, David, Alexis and Jakie.
Mass, a Burial with military honors and a reception to follow will be on May 16, 2026.
