George Eighmie

George B. Eighmie, 76, of Stamford, passed away suddenly on Monday morning, April 4, 2016 at his home. Born on August 9, 1939 in Whitehall, he was the son of the late Borden C. and Gladys (Sachs) Eighmie. He was a graduate of SUNY at Delhi with a degree in Civil Engineering, he then went on to a career with NYS Dept. of Transportation, working in Delhi and Oneonta and retired after 37 years as Assistant Resident Engineer. George was married for over 46 years to the love of his life, Sandra M. Myers Eighmie, who survives. Mr. Eighmie was a dedicated firefighter, for over 45 years he was a member of Stamford Fire Dept. and was honored as firefighter of the year in 2014. He was also a EMT-B from 1971-2011 and was a Nationally Certified Fire Investigator and a Delaware Co. Fire Investigator. George was a National and NYS Certified Fire Instructor, a charter member and past president of the Delaware County Fire Fighters Asso., Past President of Delaware County Fire Police Asso., and a member of the NYS Fire Chiefs Association. George was a firearm enthusiast, a life member of the NRA and a member of the NYS Rifle and Pistol Association. He was also a outdoorsman and was a memver of the Stamford Rod and Gun Club. Besides his wife, Sandra, George is survived by his children: Scott W. (Nancy) Eighmie of Stamford and Cynthia L. (Robert) Rogers of Ravena; grandchildren: Brittany L. and Kaitlyn A. Eighmie both of Stamford, Stephen and Christopher Rogers of Ravena; great-grandchildren: Alexandra, Destiny and Ariel; one Brother: Ted (Dora) Eighmie of Scotia; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends and fellow firefighters. Memorial and Firematic services will be held at 4PM on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Stamford Fire Department, Main Street, Stamford. Graveside services will be held at 11AM on Saturday, July 23, 2016 in Stamford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of George may be made to Stamford Fire Dept. and EMS, 111 Main Street, Stamford, NY 12167 Arrangements are with MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.
