George "Buzzy" Verspoor

George “Buzzy” Verspoor, 88, of Delhi, NY, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 25, 1935 in Sayville, NY, he was the son of the late Clarence and Georgiana (Ruzicka) Verspoor.

Mr. Verspoor proudly served in the US Navy from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1957.

Buzzy retired in 1997 from NYSEG as a Chief Lineman following over 26 years of faithful service, he will be well remembered by his co-workers for his dedication to the job and his ability to mentor younger linemen.

He was past Captain of the Delhi EMS Squad and was Fire Commissioner for the former Delhi Rural Fire District. Buzzy was also active in the past Firematic Drill teams in both Sayville and Delhi.

Buzzy loved gardening and was always working on his hobby farm, including raising animals and maple sugaring. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing, however his greatest joy was his family, he was a devoted husband, loving father and proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren, whether he was teaching them or sharing a story about the good old days.

Besides his parents, Buzzy was predeceased by his brother: Clarence Verspoor, Jr.

He is survived by his wife: Joan (Ford) Verspoor of Delhi; five children: Robin Verspoor of Edenton, NC, Tracey (Martin) Hood of Delhi, Gregg (Amy) Verspoor of Delhi, Matthew (Darlene) Verspoor of Havelock, NC, and Nichole (Bill) Cairns of Delhi; eighteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother: Louis (Carolyn) Verspoor of Canandaigua; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held from 4-7PM on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Delhi. A celebration of Buzzy’s life will be held at 11:30AM on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at the Delhi Fire Hall, 140 Delview Terrace Ext., Delhi, with Rev. Brett White
