Jean Marie O’Donnell, of Cicero, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
Jean was born on May 31,1932 to Frances (Buster) and Mildred Dunn (Johansen) in Brooklyn, NY. Jean married her high school sweetheart, James J. O’Donnell on July 14,1951 at Visitation of The Blessed Virgin Mary in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY.
After Jim was discharged from the Army they moved upstate to Andes NY. After raising their family, they eventually moved to Liverpool NY to be closer to there daughters and son.
Over the years Jean not only was a full time at home mother but a waitress at the Andes Hotel, “Salad Lady” at SUNY Delhi and after the birth of her youngest son she worked in The SUNY Delhi Print Shop retiring in 1996.
Jean was a devoted mother, who enjoyed attending all of her children’s activities. Jean was her children's biggest sports fan and had no difficulty in letting the referees know when they got a call wrong. Additionally, Jean loved laying by a pool, traveling and camping with her family, especially at Pioneer Trails and in Virginia Beach.
Jean is predeceased by her loving husband of 66 years, James J. O’Donnell; her son Shawn O’Donnell and sister Mildred (Midge) Dunn.
She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Avallone, of Freehold NJ; her sons, Jamie O’Donnell of Delhi, NY, Kevin O’Donnell of Ellenton Fl., and Patrick O’Donnell of Liverpool, NY; and her daughters Karen (O’Donnell) Williams of Central Square, NY and Eileen (O’Donnell) Knickerbocker, of Pennellville, NY. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 1 p.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Andes, NY, with burial to follow at the Andes Cemetery, Andes, NY.
The family would especially like to thank Denise Lefler and Ashley Job for the care and fellowship they provided to their mother at The Cottages, Cicero, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Golisano Children's Hospital in Syracuse, NY or to a Catholic Charity of choice.
