Joan Maney, 85, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 in Cooperstown with loving family by her side.
Joan was born on November 26, 1939 in New Windsor, New York to Harry and Mary Connolly in her family’s home. She was the firstborn of two children and grew up in a loving home with a very close connection to her mother. When she got older, Joan worked at The Quality Shop in Newburgh. Her caring nature emerged at an early age as she brought home toys for her younger sister Pat. She attended and graduated from Newburgh Free Academy, and later worked at Newburgh Savings Bank.
In 1970, Joan moved to Delhi. She purchased The Jimminy Cricket restaurant and renamed it to the Village Inn. While simultaneously raising her four children, Joan was a tireless worker. Through her kind-hearted nature and selfless compassion, she became a staple of the community. Her signature food items included homemade cinnamon buns and chicken and biscuits, which were loved by many. Joan provided free food after sporting events for the village children, with hamburgers, hot dogs, and sodas for all. Even though she worked for double digit hours every day, Joan remained a loving presence for her four children.
Along with her work, Joan was a devoted Catholic who lived out the principles of her faith every day. She attended mass every weekend at St. Peter’s Church and kept many in her prayers throughout her life. Joan’s devotion to others continued into her later years, as she was a constant in all her many grandchildren’s lives. Even with an ever-expanding family, Joan always made sure to spread her love to all.
Joan is survived by her sister: Patricia (Charles Favoino, Jennifer, Bobby and Matthew Lavigne, Heather, Michael and Cody Finkbeiner); her son: Christopher (Deanna, Marisa, Corin, Everleigh, Grayson, Harlan, Justine, Alex, Madison, Chase, Danny, Riley, Shelby, Peyton, Keegan, Avery, Josh); her daughter: Joan Marie (Charles Ingram, Kevin Bedient, Dawn, Devon, Megan, Sierra, Liam, Austin, Rachel); her son: John (Julie Bergman, Cooper); her daughter: Mary (Greg Lunn, Abby), and numerous cousins. Her extended surviving family includes David and Kiersten, Stephanie, Bobby, Ro, Ann, Erika, Carol, Peg, the Dewey family, Eric, Mary Margaret, Pete, Joannie, Matt, Liz, Rachel, Debbie, the McDermott family, and Charlene.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Mary Connolly, her aunt Jay, her aunt Babe, and her cousin Andy.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from 5-8PM on Monday, June 23, 2025 at MacArthur Funeral Home, 134 Main St., Delhi, NY.
