John L. Comfort, Jr.

John L. Comfort, Jr., 75, of Bovina, New York, passed away following a short but courageous battle with cancer on Monday evening, February 16, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on May 25, 1950, in Chester, PA, John was the son of the late John and Charlotte Comfort.

He worked for over 40 years with DOMO/ FrieslandCampina in Fraser/Delhi, NY, last serving as Shop Steward, retiring in 2012.

John married Christine (Stewart) Comfort on June 12, 1982, a union that lasted 35 years, until her passing in 2017.

John loved spending time with his family, especially his grandsons. His next love was playing golf every chance he got. John could be found at home mowing his lawn or cheering for the Giants or Yankees. In earlier years he and Christine could be found out dancing the night away. He also enjoyed playing cards, deer hunting, and snowmobiling with family and friends.

Besides his parents and wife, John was predeceased by his sisters: Helen Hayward and Mary Behrer; and his mother-in-law: Janet Stewart.

He is survived by his daughter: Carrie (Cody) Weber of Bovina; grandsons: Zachary and Evan Weber of Bovina; father-in-law: Lester Stewart of Bovina; sisters-in-law: Connie Finkle of Bovina, Carol Hall of Bloomville and Cathy (Michael Mattson) Balcom of Downsville; brothers-in-law: Cliff (Ellen) Stewart of Bovina, Harold Hayward of Otego and John Behrer of Bovina; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

A celebration of John’s life will be held from 12-4PM on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at the Bovina Community Hall, 1866 County Hwy 6, Bovina Center, NY 13740
