John B. Gilmore, Sr., 88, of Stamford, formerly of Delhi, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Albany Medical Center, Albany, NY.
Born on December 9, 1937, in Walton, John was the son of the late Edna and Arnold Gilmore.
John graduated from Walton High School, class of 1956 and SUNY Delhi in 1959. In November of 1959 John married Sheila W. Brennan. They would settle in Delhi, raising their three children and sharing 34 years of marriage until Sheila’s passing in 1993. Delhi would be home for 42 years.
He was a 35-year member of the Delhi Pistol Team and a Past Noble Grand of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows, Delhi Chapter.
John was an avid hunter as well as a coin and antique gun collector.
He was employed by New York State Division for Youth, his career with the state spanned 37 years, upon his retirement, John was awarded credit for 39 years of service to the people of the State of New York, retiring as Director of the Allen Residential Center in South Kortright, NY, He served the agency and facility as a Youth Division Counselor, A Senior Youth Counselor, Assistant Director and then Facility Director.
In November of 2002, John married his wife, Eve Connell Bligh-Gilmore.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his first wife of 34 years: Sheila Gilmore; son: Mark Gilmore; brother: Lawrence Gilmore; sister: Marion Gilmore; nephew: David Gilmore; son-in-law: James Teddy; and sister-in-law: Shigeko Gilmore.
He is survived by his wife: Eve Bligh-Gilmore of Stamford, NY; children: John B. (Karee) Gilmore, Jr. of Sidney, NY and Cynthia Gilmore Teddy of Charlotte, NC; stepdaughters: Jackie and Susan Bligh; daughter-in-law: Amy Gilmore; nine grandchildren: Kortnee, John, Eric, Carletta, Matthew, Brennan, Spencer, Meredith and Mattingly; along with ten great-grandchildren; and a nephew: Robert J. Gilmore.
A calling hour will be held from 12-1PM on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Delhi, NY, followed by a funeral service at 1PM, burial will at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in memory of John to the American Cancer Society.
