Josephine "Jo" Dayton

Josephine S. “Jo” Dayton, 88, of Delhi passed away early Thursday morning, May 31, 2018 at O’Connor Hospital in Delhi surrounded by her family. Born January 18, 1930 in Michigan, Jo spent part of her childhood living with her grandparents, Monroe and Cora Becker in Summit, NY and eventually moving to Delhi with the rest of her family. She graduated from Delaware Academy in 1949 and worked at the Elm Tree Restaurant for a few years. Jo married Leonard W. Dayton on June 24, 1951. How fortunate that these two kind and wonderful people shared 62 happily married years together, until Lenny’s passing on January 8, 2014. Jo passed her civil service exam and worked for the Real Property Tax office of Delaware County for over 20 years until ill health forced her to retire and leave the many friends and the work she liked so much. She is survived by a son: Frederick (Ann) Dayton of Binghamton; daughter: Elizabeth (Marc) Forstell of Scotia; grandchildren: Nichole and Chad Forstell; nephew: James Boyers of Ohio; niece: Linda Williams of Bainbridge; caregiver: Nancy Barlow and many good friends. Besides her husband Leonard, Jo was predeceased by a daughter, JoAnn Drabo in 2015 and a brother: Charles Stokes in 2016. Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from 11AM-1PM on Tuesday, June 5 at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 134 Main St., Delhi, where a celebration of life will follow at 1PM.
