Juergen Heinrich Fritz Mahler, 89, passed away peacefully at his home on May 18, 2025. Born on April 1, 1936, in Bremervorde, Germany to Hermann and Amalia Mahler, Juergen lived a life marked by resilience, hard work, and a deep devotion to God. At the age of 14, he left home on a bicycle and began an apprenticeship as an electrician—an early sign of the determination and independence that would define his life.
In 1958, Juergen immigrated to the United States, embracing his new home with courage and optimism. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962, an experience that strengthened his love for his adopted country.
In 1963, he married the love of his life, Lore Balters, on July 16. Together they built a life of structure, family, and meaningful work. Juergen and Lore raised two sons, Erik and Mark Mahler, and were later blessed with three grandchildren: Marie Bellissimo, Grace Mahler, and Karleigh Mahler, who were the pride and joy of his life.
A man of entrepreneurial spirit, Juergen became a partner in G & M Deli in Great Neck in 1965, where he built a successful family business known for its quality. In 1970, he and Lore purchased a piece of heaven in Andes, New York. What began as a weekend retreat grew into a cherished family home and eventually a grand estate—a testament to Juergen's vision and dedication. As a “hobbyist architect”, he spent decades lovingly transforming the property into a place of beauty and peace, which became his and Lore’s forever home.
Juergen’s life was defined by strength, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to God, his family, and the legacy he built. He leaves behind a lasting impression on all who knew him.
A memorial service to honor Juergen’s life will be held at 11am on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at 565 Andes Road, Delhi, NY 13753. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Helioscare.org in his honor.
