Katherine M. Kaufman

Katherine “Katy” Madolyn (Monser) Kaufman was born in Oneonta, New York on September 30, 1928, the daughter of Lebanese immigrants.

She passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, at the age of 97. She was the youngest of 8 children who predeceased her – Michele Monser, Marion (Irvin) Barton , Thomas (Marguerite) Monser, Madolyn (Otto) Danzi, Pauline (Edigate) Colone, Esther Monser, and Francis “Bud”(Myrna) Monser.

She was known to all who loved her as Katy. She married Kenneth Russell Kaufman on May 6, 1950. (Russ passed away on September 13, 2001.) Together, they welcomed five children into their home-Thomas (JoAnn) Kaufman, Katherine (Frederic) Gratto, Barbara (Duane) Sturdevant, Russell (Cara) Kaufman and William (Michelle) Kaufman. She became Granny to 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. Besides her husband, Katy was predeceased by one grandson, Terance Kaufman and one great grandson, Will Claxton.

Katy enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, canning, sewing, quilting and crafting. She had many friends and enjoyed having coffee and playing cards with them. Her home was always open to others, fresh baked cookies usually filled the cookie jar, and meals were intentionally prepared with the expectation of extra people around the dinner table. Many Sundays included extended family gatherings of kickball, playing in the river, sledding, and cookouts. Her faith and family remained very important to her throughout her life. She was active in 4-H and Home Bureau, was a sports fan, and enjoyed nature. She encouraged and passed on to her children the love of many of these things.

She lived a long and good life. Thank you to all friends and family who loved her well.

Calling hours will be held from 3PM-7PM on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at MacArthur Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Delhi, NY. A funeral mass will be held 11AM on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Cross Street, Delhi, NY, burial will be at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi. A gathering will follow at the Delhi Fire Department Hall.
