Leon Stewart Champlin

Leon S. Champlin, 83, of Oneonta, NY, formerly of Stamford, passed away Friday, August 23, 2024 at Fox Hospital in Oneonta.


Born on March 12,1941 in Hobart, NY, Leon was the son of the late Floyd and Clara (Lyon) Champlin.


Leon enjoyed crossword puzzles and word jumbles in the Daily Star, country music, watching baseball games (NY Yankees were his favorite) and Football games. He also enjoyed his trips to Disneyworld.


He worked hard all his life up until April of this year. His occupations included farming, working at feed mills in Stamford, NY, AW Demerest & son, Beacon and Agway.


For the last 30 plus years he was as a rural postal carrier in Stamford, Leon enjoyed serving his customers along his routes.


Besides his parents: Leon was predeceased by an infant son: Kenny Champlin; brothers: Leslie and Frank; as well as his sisters: Nancy, Doris and Margaret.


Leon is survived by his wife: Vilma of Oneonta; his children from a previous marriage: Dennis (Becky) Champlin of Firestone, CO, Wendy Roe of Oneonta, NY, Gene (Kristal Macintyre) Champlin of Stamford , NY; grandchildren: Victoria Menard, Zachary Champlin, Bridgett Champlin, Justin Roe, Nicholas Roe and Samantha Roe; great-grandchildren: Harrison, Albert, Sophia, Blake, Maya, Jordan and Carter; his sister: Donna Champlin; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.


A celebration of Leon's life will be held from noon to 4PM on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at the Hobart Community Center (Fire Dept Hall) Cornell Ave., Hobart, NY 13788.
