Libera Bassani

DAVENPORT — Libera Lena Bassani, 89, of Davenport, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta. She was born the daughter of John and Anna (Lira) DeMarchi on Dec. 16, 1922, in Arsie, Italy, coming to New York City, at the age of 5. She married August Bassani on June 17, 1944. He predeceased her Dec. 5, 2007. Lena enjoyed employment as a secretary for New York State Environmental Conservation, Stamford. She loved living on the farm with her husband and riding around the property in a "gator," often picking berries. A very giving person, she loved to bake, especially cookies at Christmas to give as gifts to relatives, friends and neighbors. Lena is survived by a son, Eric Bassani; and a daughter, Noreen Riley; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Rotelli and Leila Bassani; and brother-in-law, Alfred Bassani; and a niece, Lorina and Pete Pedersen; and nephew, Richard and Gina Pasa. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport, with the Rev. Carol Wilson officiating.
