Lois Mummenthey

Lois Mummenthey, 70, of Jefferson passed away peacefully at her home on January 3, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was born on January 6, 1947 in Brooklyn. She was the daughter of Thomas Robert and Ann Crossley. She graduated from Babylon High School. Lois married Herman C. (Buddy) Mummenthey in 1969. They lived in Brentwood and Bayport before moving to Jefferson in 1984. Lois worked for many years as a bookkeeper, real estate agent, and medical records clerk. Most recently, she worked at Robinson Terrace in Stamford, retiring in 2011. Lois was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where she served as treasurer. An avid golfer, she was a member of the Stamford Golf Course. She enjoyed gardening, puzzles, crossword puzzles, and homemaking. Her greatest joy was her family. Lois was a loving wife, devoted mother and proud grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Herman; her son Carl (Tabitha) Mummenthey of Jefferson and daughter Donna (Darby) Hartwell of Stamford; grandchildren Lauren, Shannon, Andrew and Ainsley; sisters Janet (Jon) Gibson of OR and Grace Sammarco of MD; brother John (Amy Alinea) Crossley of Mt. Vision; sister-in-law Phyllis (Vance) Parker of DE; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Robert Crossley; and a brother-in-law, Richard Mummenthey. Friends and relatives may call on the family from 4-7PM on Tuesday, Jan. 9th at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 40 Cornell Ave., Hobart. A memorial service will be held 11AM on Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 126 State Route 10, Stamford. Interment shall be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Berne, NY at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Lois may be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, The American Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice.
