Marie L. Lawrence

Marie Louise Tompkins Lawrence, 96 years, 11 months and 12 days passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at her residence in Livingston Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hudson, NY.

Marie was born in Ashland, NY to Emmet and Violet Elizabeth (Newcomb) Tompkins. She married Vincent Lawrence on September 30, 1945.

Marie was predeceased by her husband Vincent in 2007, and her sons Gary in 2009, Robert in 2021, Edwin in 2006, and baby Donald in 1952. Marie is the last of her siblings.

Marie is survived by her son Ronald and Marcia (DeCristafaro) of Apex, N.C., her son Dennis and Laureen (Hamm) of South Gilboa; her daughter Candy (Lawrence) and Alexander Begley of Windham, daughters-in-law, Kathleen (Platt) of Parksville; Helene (Weidman) of Jefferson, Claudia (Decker) of Zephyrhills, FL. Marie’s numerous grandchildren include , Marc, Kevin, Scott, Kelly, Bryan, Lorie, Lennie, Michael, Michelle, Amber, Joshua, Tarah, Cassandra, Crystyn, and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Marie was born on her parents’ farm in Ashland and loved living as a farm girl. Later she and Vincent owned and operated a small farm in South Gilboa where she continued raising her children. Marie loved to bake and cook and often fed a houseful on a moment’s notice.

Marie was an industrious person providing elderly care in her home when her family was young. Later she worked at various establishments such as Collins’ Diner, Scotch Valley, and the Red Carpet as a waitress. Marie also enjoyed selling AVON. Marie loved working with crafts which her grandchildren loved doing with her. She served at the Senior Citizens Center in Jefferson.

Marie will be missed by her family and friends.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11AM on Friday, July 12, 2024 at the Stamford Cemetery, 2 Mountain Ave., Stamford, NY
