Marion Govern

Marion H. Govern, 92, of Stamford, passed away early Monday morning, March 28, 2016 at Robinson Terrace in Stamford. Born on July 20, 1923 in Grand Gorge, she was the daughter of the late William and Grace (Newcomb) Jones. Marion was a lifelong area resident and a 1941 High School Graduate. She married Thomas Govern on November 20, 1948, a union that lasted for 47 years until his passing on July 18, 1996. In her earlier years, Marion was employed by Schoefield Farms of Stamford and then joined her husband's company working as a secretary for Catskill Craftsman Inc., Stamford until her retirement. She was a member of the Stamford VFW Auxiliary and Sacred Heart Church Roman Catholic, Stamford. Besides her husband, Thomas, she was predeceased by two brothers, George Jones and Harold "Pete" Jones; and a half-sister, Evelyn Bassani. Marion is survived by a sister-in-law, Jeannie Mae Jones; a brother-in-law, James Govern and several nieces and nephews. A private (for family only) Funeral mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Stamford with Father Michael Cambi officiating. Burial will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to the Stamford Fire Department and EMS, 111 Main Street, Stamford, NY 12167 Arrangements are with MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.
