Marlene Lay Cammer

Marlene Ann Lay-Cammer loved to sing “In the Garden”. She sang this for her father Clark Lay, who passed in 2004, her mother Gladys Lay, who passed in 2011 and for many family members who have passed on. She had the voice of an angel, she went to sing with the angels, peacefully on August 20, 2026.

Marlene Lay was born on March 3, 1951, to Clark and Gladys Lay from Bovina Center. Two sisters (Tanya & Marcia) were anxiously awaiting her arrival; a third sister (Denise) caught up a few years later.

Marlene grew up in Bovina Center, attending the Bovina two room schoolhouse until she went to Delhi Central School. She settled in Harpersfield and enjoyed a career as a teaching assistant within the ONCO BOCES system. She had a passion for teaching and loved the students she worked with. Marlene truly cherished family, always spending important milestones and holidays close to her loved ones. In her spare time, she created beautiful crafts including Christmas items for local craft shows. She volunteered at Stamford CORE and was a member of the Stamford Presbyterian Church. She loved trips to Turning Stone Casino and dragging friends (& her sisters) on bus trips all around the area to find outlet malls!

Marlene is predeceased by her parents Clark and Gladys, former spouse Rick, and older sister Tanya.

She is survived by her son: Jason; grandson: Nicholas; sisters: Marcia (William) Bagley and Denise (John) VanDusen; along with many cousins, niece and nephews.

There are no plans for calling hours or traditional funeral, on September 19, 2026, there will be a celebration of Marlene's life at 12 noon, at the Col. Harper Grange Hall, 170 Wilcox Road, Harpersfield NY. Food will be provided for friends and family to gather and remember Marlene.
