Melvin G. Elderkin

Melvin G. Elderkin, 80, of Delhi, passed away on Monday morning, July 7, 2025 at O’Connor Hospital in Delhi following an extended illness.

Born on March 11, 1945 in Delhi, Melvin was the son of the late Melvin R. and Gavena (Ogborn) Elderkin.

He proudly served in the US Army from 1968 until his honorable discharge in 1970.

Melvin married Donna (Craft) Elderkin on December 14, 1974.

He was a heavy equipment operator for the Town of Delhi Highway Department retiring in 2015, Melvin also worked for Bloomville Disposal for several years until his retirement in 2018.

Melvin was a true outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, lawn work and being outside. He was known for spending time puttering in the garage and being the grill master at any family gathering. Melvin’s greatest passion was for his family, he was a devoted husband, loving father and proud grandfather.

He is survived by his wife: Donna J. Elderkin of Delhi; daughter: Melinda (Bruce) Hillway of Woodbridge, VA; granddaughter: Arista Elderkin of Woodbridge, VA; sisters: Judith (Al) Hand of Lisle, NY and Marjorie Quarella of Greene, NY; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private burial with military honors will be held at Locust Hill Cemetery, Hobart, NY at the convenience of the family.
