Philip Merrill

Philip H. Merrill, 95, passed away Oct.6, 2015, at O'Connor Hospital, Delhi, NY. He was born June 15, 1920, in Horton, the son of John and Antoinette (Goetschius) Merrill. He married Orel Merrill Oct. 26, 1943. She predeceased him Feb. 17, 2010. A dairy farmer, he enjoyed other positions as well, including Delaware Academy bus driver and mechanic and transporting milk for three local creameries. A longtime member of West Delhi United Presbyterian Church, he served as an Elder. He also served on the Grievance Board in the Town of Hamden for many years. He enjoyed Delhi League bowling, hunting and fishing. He is survived by daughters, Patricia Thomson, Delhi and Virginia (Charles) McWilliams, Connecticut: son, Douglas and Birgitt Merrill, Delhi; daughter-in-law, Gay Merrill, Delhi and Eric and Brenda Greenfield, Syracuse; granddaughters, Brooks and Kimberly Goodison, Connecticut, Stacey McWilliams, Baltimore, Maryland; grandsons, Scott and Vicki Merrill and Travis Merrill, all of Delhi; sisters-in-law, Alice Blackman, Hamden and Dawn Merrill, Binghamton; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Orel, in 2010 and a son, Randy in 2009. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 pm., Monday, Oct. 12, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Merrill family cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to West Delhi United Presbyterian Church and sent in care of Patricia Thomson, 171 Main St., Delhi, NY 13753.
