Richard Dirk Baxter

Richard Dirk Baxter, 79, of Delhi, passed away early Tuesday morning, May 5, 2026 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown following a long illness.

Born on August 13, 1946 in Delhi, NY, he was the son of the late Winfield and Marguerite (Secord) Baxter.

Richard proudly served in the US Army from 1966 until his honorable discharge in 1968.

He enjoyed reading, crafts including latch hook rugs and listening to blues and classic rock music. Richard kept up on current affairs and was a master at trivia. He had a passion for sports and enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother: James Baxter.

He is survived by nieces and nephews: Melanie Baxter of Delhi, Robert Baxter of Bovina and Maureen Baxter of Hamden; grandnieces and grandnephews: Kaitlin, Mackenzie, Amber, Brittani, Evan and Damon; along with several cousins.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 2PM on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Woodland Cemetery, Cuddeback Ave., Delhi, NY.
