Richard G. "Rick" Forsman

Richard G.” Rick” Forsman, 72, of Margaretville, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Kingston Hospital following a short illness.


Born on February 19, 1953, in Margaretville, he was the son of the late Ralph and Helen (Barnes) Forsman.


Rick was a 1971 graduate of Margaretville Central School, where he was a standout athlete.


He was a local contractor; Rick also owned his own firewood supply business.  His son joked that he would be buried with a chainsaw in his hand.


Given his size at 6’8 feet tall, Rick was known as a “gentle giant”.  He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing and being in the woods were his greatest passions, Rick was the epitome of a “Mountain Man” and with a Scandinavian heritage he was often referred to as the Viking.


Besides his parents, Rick was predeceased by his wife Sharon; and a brother: Eric Forsman.


He is survived by his children: Gregg (Marie) Forsman and Christine Miller; grandchildren: Nathaniel, Abby, Aryanna, Madison and Gus; stepdaughter: Robbie Martin and her children, Cora, James and Patrick; brother: Neal (Lily) Forsman; sister-in-law: Judy Forsman; and nieces and nephews: Erika, Elizabeth, Ryun, Adam and Mark.


Keeping with Rick’s wishes there will be no calling hours or formal funeral service,  A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at the Ark Bowl  42366 NY-28, Arkville, NY 12406 on Thursday, May 1, 2025 starting at 5PM.


Arrangements are with Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, NY
