Russell Waring

Russell Jack Waring, 78, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026.

Russ was born in Delhi, NY on January 11, 1948. He was the son of Rex and Alice Waring and was raised in Delhi.

Russ was very active in High School at Delaware Academy and excelled in Basketball. He had decided in the third grade that he wanted to be a teacher. He first went to Auburn Community College in Auburn, NY and then joined the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam.

When he returned from his military assignment, he continued his goal to become a teacher and completed his bachelor’s degree at Brockport State University.

He then taught Physical Education and Health and coached HS Basketball for many years.

While teaching, he earned a master’s degree in special education and then taught HS Special Education for the remainder of his teaching years. Russ was an awesome teacher, and many of his students called him "Coach"!

He married the love of his life, Susan (Doenges) in 1973, who also grew up in Delhi, NY. They raised two children: his son: Preston of Gibsonia, PA, married to Carrie and parents of Katheryn; his daughter: Carrie of Odenton, MD, married to Eric and parents of Connor and Julaine.

Russ was predeceased by his parents, older sister Judy Serowik and older brother, Lynn.

Russ and Susan traveled extensively in the US and Europe and lived in 10 communities in 6 different states. They resided in South Hero, Vermont since 2010. Over their 53 married years together, they enjoyed many friends and wonderful times with family.

The 4 most important things that shaped Russ' life were his family, with Susan being his MOST important, his dogs, his Country, and the NY Yankees!

A calling hour will be held from 12PM until 1:00PM on Saturday, October 24th, 2026 at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Delhi, NY, followed by a Celebration of Russ’s Life immediately following.
