Silvia Gula, age 78, of North Syracuse, NY, passed away suddenly on August 25, 2026.
Born on August 3, 1947, in Passaic, NJ, she was the daughter of John Gula Jr. and Sylvia (Frustieri) Gula. In January 1950, the family relocated to Crowe Road in Bloomville, NY, to pursue farming.
Silvia graduated from South Kortright Central School and SUNY Buffalo, where she earned her degree. She later worked at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry before retiring.
Silvia was a beloved daughter, sister, and aunt. Independent and strong-minded, she was also deeply caring and generous to those around her.
She maintained a lifelong connection to South Kortright Central School and was very active in its alumni community. Silvia took a particular interest in keeping alumni records current, gathering contact information and updates about former classmates and fellow alumni. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, attending community events, visiting canal locks and zoos, and, most recently, attending Whitetails Unlimited events.
Silvia shared a particularly special bond with her great-nieces, Avery and Leighton, as well as her nephew Jared, who was always there to help her or join her on one of her adventures.
She is survived by her brother: John (Roxanne Craft) Gula III of Bloomville; her sister: Marsha Ann Gula (Steve Hayward) of London, England; her sister-in-law: Deb Gula; her nieces and nephews: John (Victoria) Gula IV, Darcy (Jason) Ransford, Josey (Bertha) Gula, Jared Gula, Gwendoline (Craig White) Rosekrans, David (Shelby) Gula, and Steven (Destiny) Gula; along with several great-nieces and great-nephews; her aunts: Connie and Geraldine; and several cousins.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Lilly Gula, Jay Gula, and Jody Gula.
Friends and family are welcome to attend calling hours from 4-7PM on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at MacArthur Funeral Home15 Buntline Drive, Stamford, NY, where a Funeral service will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, September 2. Graveside services will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Bloomville, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Whitetails Unlimited in honor of Silvia or to the charity of your choice.
Her family and friends will remember her with great fondness for her independent spirit, generous heart, love of family, and adventurous nature.
