Sonja E. Slicer, 84, of Stamford, went to be with the lord on Thursday, March 12, 2020 following a long illness. Born February 15, 1936 in Albany, N.Y., the daughter of the late James and Evelyn Berg. Sonja enjoyed gardening, birds, line dancing, playing bingo and was an avid reader. Her greatest passion was her family, she was a loving mother, a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. Sonja could often be found meeting up with friends or the coffee clutch. She was a member of Stamford First Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School and also served as a ruling elder. Besides her parents, Sonja was predeceased by her husband, Edward J. Slicer; and granddaughter Jaclyn Straight. Sonja will be remembered with love by her children: Terry (Brad) Straight of Westbrook, ME, Bill (Mischele) Jeremias of Gansevoort, Robb (Danielle) Snyder of Schenectady and Jim (Catherine) Snyder of Stamford; 11 grandchildren: Jennifer, Joshua, Jessica, Eric, Jared, Ryan, Jonah, Lila, Emily, Molly and Elyse and 3 great grandchildren: Jackson, Elly and Kylie;and one Aunt: Betty Schyberg Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from 4-7PM on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 15 Buntline Drive, Stamford, NY 12167. A funeral service will be held at noon on Sunday, March 15 at the First Presbyterian Church, 96 Main Street, Stamford, with the Rev. Bruce Straight officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Stamford First Presbyterian Church, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to the Ronald McDonald House.
