Steve Edmund Nelson More, 76, of Jefferson, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Albany Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born on March 13, 1949, in Stamford Hospital, Stamford, NY, Steve was the son of the late Walter and Mary (Cleveland) More.
Steve grew up on McMurdy Hill in Hobart, growing up in a large family with six siblings. He was a graduate of South Kortright Central School.
Steve loved animals, cattle, horses and farm life, in his earlier years he enjoyed Barrell Racing on horseback, skiing, hunting and playing soccer. He also enjoyed the companionship of his Australian Shepards: Boots and Junior.
He owned and operated Steve More Livestock Dealers for many years and was known to many as “The Cattleman”. Steve also worked for six years with Lancaster Development, general contractors in Richmondville, NY. In his younger years, he worked for Eklund Farm Machinery in Stamford.
Steve spent the last 25 years with the love of his life Melinda, the couple was married 19 years ago, on July 2, 2006.
He also enjoyed watching westerns (no matter how old the re-runs), along with soccer on TV. Steve enjoyed spending time with family and friends often at gatherings and barbeques. Steve loved spending time talking about farming and the little things in life with his customers and hanging out with his “buddies” at the livestock auction barns.
Beside his parents, he was predeceased by sisters: Audrey (Ken) Dorsky, Edna Hitchcock, Christina “Tina” Morse and Inze Marella.
He is survived by wife: Melinda More; daughter: Candi (Scott) Mattice; grandsons: Gregory and Geoffrey Mattice; brother: Ed (Lana) More; sister: Elsie “Susie” Eno; mother-in-law: Ida Shafer; sister-in-law: Roberta Shafer; brothers-in-law: Jeff (Stacy Rhinehart) Shafer and David Shafer; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held from 3 PM until 6 PM on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 15 Buntline Drive, Stamford, NY where service will follow at 6PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Stamford Cemetery in the spring.
Steve’s family would like to thank Bobby and Doreen Martin for all their help, along with all that helped over the past week.
