Susan M. Mattice, 68, of Prattsville, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Susan was born on May 14, 1952 in Stamford, the daughter of the late Fred and Marion (Wheeler) Joedicke. From a young age, Susan was a talented musician and gifted pianist, in her youth she also played the organ at the Hobart Presbyterian Church. Throughout high school, Susan attended Hartwick College summer music camps. She was a 1970 graduate of South Kortright Central School and went on to graduate in 1974 from Shenandoah Conservatory of Music at Shenandoah University, Winchester, VA. Following her college graduation she began her 30 year career teaching music to generations at Windham Ashland Jewett Central School, retiring in 2004, Susan touched the lives of many students not only at WAJ but throughout Greene County with her participation in the Greene County Music Educators Association (GCMEA) All-County Music Festivals. Susan was married to Kenneth A. Mattice on December 27, 1976, a union that lasted 39 years, until Ken’s passing on March 3, 2016. Susan was a caring, fun loving and loyal friend and was always concerned for others. Besides her parents and husband, Susan was predeceased by her brothers: Bill and Jim Joedicke. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Melissa and Michael Kiel of Stamford; two grandchildren: Meliyah and Michael Kiel; sister: Erica (Ed) Decker of Colorado Springs, CO; brother: Fred (Joan) Joedicke of Hobart; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Celebration of Life will be held for Susan and Ken on October 17, 2020 from 12:00 to 5:00 at the family home, 2458 Route 2, Prattsville, NY 12468.
