Thelma Scherer

Thelma Scherer, 87, of Bloomville, passed away early Friday morning, September 26, 2025, at Robinson Terrace in Stamford, NY.

Born on April 2, 1938, in Walton, Thelma was the daughter of the late Warner and Pauline (North) Kingsbury.

She served in the US Air Force from 1956-1958. Thelma worked for Breakstone’s in Walton and later for the Great American Grocery Store in Delhi until her retirement.

Thelma was married to Dean A. Scherer, he passed away on April 29, 2025.

She enjoyed playing cards, crossword searches and trying her luck with lottery scratch offs. Thelma was a gifted cook and baker, but her greatest joy was her family, she loved caring for her grandchildren.

Thelma is survived by her children: Kathy (Dale) Barnhart of Bovina, Dean (Linda Burdick) Scherer of Bloomville, Tim (Paula) Scherer of Bloomville, Stephen (Darlene) Scherer of Bloomville and William Scherer of Bloomville; grandchildren: Amber, Leah, Stephen Jr., Krista, Tyler, Brianna, Brandon and Kayla; siblings: Tom Kingsbury, Doug (Arlene) Kingsbury, Betty Tait, Gloria Tait and Linda Pipa; along with several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Thelma’s request there will be no calling hours or funeral service, A celebration of life will be announced later.
