Wayne McCulley, 64, of Davenport/Schenevus, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at St. Peter’s hospital following nearly a 3 year battle with cancer. Born on February 19, 1955 in Stamford, Wayne was the son of the late Jack and Anna (McLain) McCulley. Wayne was a graduate of Charlotte Valley Central School in Davenport. He worked at Fox Hospital in the maintenance dept., owned and operated a sawmill, later worked at Butts Lumber Co., and was a Manager of the Dollar Tree Store, where many children thought he was Santa and gave their Christmas request to him. He was an avid hunter and trapper, raised chickens, rabbits and beef cows and grew a large garden to stock his freezer every year. Wayne was a member of the Charlotte Valley Senior Citizens. Wayne was also predeceased by his Red Bone Hounds, Rose and Rosa A Lee. Wayne is survived by his children: Blake (Debbie) McCulley and Melissa (Ryan) Carbonara; grandchildren: Adien, Olivia, Ariel, Dylan and Ethan; siblings: Jacqueline (Bill) Finger, Roberta (Chuck) Barringer and Gary (Dawn) McCulley; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends and relatives are invited to call from 4-7PM on Friday, January 3, 2020 at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 15 Buntline Drive, Stamford. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 4 at Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Frank MacCracken Jr., officiating. Burial at Davenport Cemetery will be in the spring.
