William Henry Bartlett went home to be with his LORD and Saviour on May 13, 2026
Wm. Henry was born on September 22, 1933, to Raymond and Kathryn (Hoyt) Bartlett of Pines Brook, Walton.
Henry served in the Army and was stationed in Japan for 2 years, working as a High-Speed Morse code intercept operator.
He married Sonja Louise Coons on September 12, 1959. They made a home and raised their four children: Marge, Peggy, Bill and Tim in Walton, NY.
After working for a local general contractor and a Walton business, Henry, together with his wife, built the successful flooring business, Bartlett’s Carpet. They opened the business when Henry was 39 and ran it together until his retirement at age 83. Once when he was 82, he expressed his disappointment with his lack of stamina, by sharing, “I’m not worth a darn after 2:00pm in the afternoon”.
Henry was a lifelong resident of Pines Brook as well as a long-time active member of the Pines Brook Baptist Church where he served as both a Trustee and Deacon for many years. He also dedicated time to the church camp, Camp Bayouca, where he served on the Board and helped maintain the facilities.
Henry worked as a voting machine custodian for over 30 years; setting up and maintaining the machines for the Town and Village of Walton and the Walton School.
Henry enjoyed making syrup at the family sap house; spending many hours in late winter operating the evaporator and monitoring the syrup. He was an avid reader. In his later years he could often be found on the porch with a book tucked under his arm, while enjoying the sounds and antics of the hummingbirds and the beauty of the songbirds which came to his feeder.
Henry was a faithful husband and provider. He and Sonja were a good team; she would draw up a design, and he would fashion it out of wood. Their home was a testament to their skill and craftsmanship.
He trusted Jesus as his Savior in his early 20s, and we have full assurance we will be reunited with him one day. He spent time daily in God’s Word and was a faithful prayer warrior. His family will miss the effectual, fervent prayers he offered up on their behalf.
Henry was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Sonja Louise Coons Bartlett, his parents Raymond and Kathryn Bartlett, his brothers Douglas Bartlett and Robert Bartlett as well as his son-in-law Thomas Sackett.
He is survived by his sister K. Lucille Bartlett of Walton and his children: Marge Sackett of Whitney Point, Peggy (David) Hamley of Barton, Bill (Tracey) Bartlett and Tim Bartlett, of Walton, as well as 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from noon until 1PM on Thursday May 21, 2026 at Pines Brook Baptist Church, 1444 Pines Brook Rd, Walton, NY, where a funeral service will be held at 1PM. Interment will follow with military honors at the Walton Cemetery.
